TP Solar Ltd., the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power and a subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, has marked a major milestone in India’s renewable energy sector with the inauguration of its 4.3 GW solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The state-of-the-art plant was formally inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, in the presence of key dignitaries, including Thiru T.R.B. Rajaa, Honourable Minister for Industries & Commerce, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, and Mr. Deepesh Nanda, CEO & MD of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited.
A Leap Towards India’s Renewable Energy Goals
As India’s largest single-location solar manufacturing unit, the Tirunelveli plant is equipped with advanced TOPCon and Mono Perc technologies to produce high-efficiency solar cells and modules. This facility is set to play a vital role in meeting the country’s rising demand for clean energy, aligning with India’s renewable energy targets and self-reliance in solar manufacturing.

During the inauguration, Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, expressed his pride in launching this cutting-edge facility, emphasizing its role in sustainability, innovation, and community development. He stated:

Strengthening India’s Solar Manufacturing Capabilities
The newly inaugurated facility will initially support Tata Power’s ongoing projects, reinforcing its domestic solar supply chain. The company also plans to explore wider market distribution as part of its future expansion strategy.
Apart from the Tirunelveli plant, Tata Power also operates a world-class manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, established in 1992. This unit has a production capacity of 682 MW for solar modules and 530 MW for solar cells.
