Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd Signs PPA with NTPC for 200 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy Project

The 200 MW hybrid project combining solar, wind, and battery storage aims to generate 1,300 MUs annually and cut over 1 million tons of CO₂ emissions, reinforcing TPREL’s leadership in India’s clean energy transition.

Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in India’s renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Limited, has signed a landmark Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NTPC Limited, the country’s largest integrated power utility. The agreement is for the development of a 200 MW Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy (FDRE) Project.

This innovative project, spread across multiple strategic locations in India, is designed to be completed within the next 24 months. Once operational, it is projected to generate approximately 1,300 million units (MUs) of clean electricity annually, significantly reducing over 1 million tons of CO₂ emissions each year.

The project was secured by TPREL through a competitive bidding process and will feature an integrated approach, combining Solar, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technologies. A standout feature of the initiative is its commitment to deliver a 4-hour peak power supply, ensuring at least 90% availability during peak demand periods. This makes it a critical support system for India’s Distribution Companies (Discoms), addressing their growing need for reliable and sustainable energy.

This collaboration marks another milestone for TPREL as it strengthens its position in developing complex and hybrid renewable energy projects. The company’s continued focus on innovation, sustainability, and energy resilience aligns with India’s vision of a cleaner and greener energy future.

With the addition of this project, TPREL’s total renewable energy portfolio has reached 10.9 GW. Of this, 5.5 GW is currently operational—comprising 4.5 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind capacity. An additional 5.4 GW is under various stages of implementation, split evenly between 2.7 GW of solar and 2.7 GW of wind projects, scheduled for phased completion over the next 6 to 24 months.

This agreement with NTPC further demonstrates TPREL’s commitment to transforming India’s energy landscape through large-scale deployment of renewable and dispatchable energy solutions.
