Even if you are going to office in this pandemic or working from home it’s time we make both ourselves and our workspace efficient. So, its time you put your procrastination to back seat and make your office more efficient, and reduce your carbon footprint at the same time.
Here we list you few simple steps which can help you minimize your carbon output and inspire your coworkers to do the same.
Use public transport or carpool
If you are the one who have to go to office and its somewhere near then walk or bike to cut out carbon emissions entirely. Because, the medium we use to get to work has a huge impact on your carbon output. You can also switch to public transportation or carpool, these significantly cuts vehicle’s CO2 emissions. This will not only help in better tomorrow ,you might end-up making likeminded fiends.
Switch to Electric Vehicles
In case if you are thinking to own a vehicle to go to your work as a precautionary measure to fight COVID 19, its time that you bring home electric vehicles – be it bike, scooter or cars. But make sure you charge these vehicles from charging stations powered by renewable energy.
The Three R’s
“Reduce, reuse, recycle”, I am sure you all are familiar with this green magic mantra. The green magic mantra simply means If possible, choose reusable options for items like coffee mugs, glasses, dishes, silverware, etc., and recycle everything that can be recycled. This means walking down the hall to the recycling bin to discard materials instead of just throwing them in the trash bin under your desk. When a workplace actively participates in this “reduce, reuse, recycle” mindset, its carbon footprint starts to shrink.
If not extremely necessary don’t printl
Paper is wasteful, plain and simple. If you have to print, make sure you use both the sides of the paper. This will reduce the amount of paper you use annually, along with the amount of CO2 that goes into that paper production.
Use an all-in-one printer/scanner/copier instead of three separate power voracious devices. Don’t forget to turn off equipment when not in use. And Finally use ENERGY STAR certified products.
Unplug Phone Chargers and Appliances
Do you know leaving your phone charger plugged in when you’re not charging your phone consumes energy. So as a true Climate Samurai you should also unplug any appliances in your office like coffee makers, toasters, and microwaves at the end of the day because they too use energy even when not being used.
Change Business Trips with Video Conferencing
As working from home is becoming new normal there is incredible strides in video conferencing technology and a reduced need to spend time and energy traveling for business meetings. If you are still considering a business trip, ask yourself if the trip is really necessary or if the meeting could be held over Google Meet, Zoom , Skype or any other video conferencing app. Cutting down on your trip will cut down your carbon footprint in a greater extent.
