DICV accelerates its sustainability journey by reaching full renewable power utilization ahead of schedule, significantly reducing Scope 2 emissions and setting new industry standards in green manufacturing.
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has reached a major sustainability milestone by fully transitioning to 100% renewable power at its Oragadam production facility ahead of schedule. This achievement highlights DICV’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and marks a significant reduction in Scope 2 emissions well before the initial target of 2025.
Advancing Sustainable Manufacturing with Renewable Energy
Since 2018, DICV has prioritized climate action by focusing on CO2e emission reduction and energy efficiency. The company has steadily expanded its renewable energy infrastructure, leading to this breakthrough in green manufacturing.
DICV’s comprehensive renewable energy strategy involves a blend of onsite solar power generation and offsite renewable energy procurement. This approach has resulted in an offset of 22,970 tons of CO2e emissions, reinforcing the company’s role in decarbonization efforts.
Solar Power Driving Green Energy Goals
A crucial component of this transformation is the installation of a solar power plant with a 4,300 kW peak capacity, powered by 15,000 solar panels. This plant alone offsets 4,000 tons of CO2e emissions annually, contributing to 17% of the total renewable power generated in-house.
Leadership Commitment to Sustainability
Satyakam Arya, Managing Director & CEO of DICV, emphasized the company’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing, stating:
“Achieving 100% renewable power utilization ahead of our target demonstrates our firm commitment to decarbonizing operations. Since 2018, we have been focused on expanding our renewable energy infrastructure, and now we have successfully reached full renewable power usage under Scope 2 emissions. Supportive state and central policies, including green power purchases, have played a crucial role in this milestone.”
A Carbon-Neutral Future Through Innovation
Beyond renewable energy, DICV continues to explore alternative sustainable energy sources and enhance energy efficiency measures to further minimize carbon emissions. By integrating advanced sustainability practices, the company sets industry benchmarks and contributes to a carbon-neutral future.
This achievement underscores DICV’s role as a sustainability leader, paving the way for greener commercial vehicle manufacturing and a more sustainable industrial future.
