Ola Electric steps beyond EVs into home energy With the rollout of ‘Shakti (शक्ति)’ from its Krishnagiri Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu, Ola Electric has formally entered India’s residential battery energy storage system (BESS) market. The launch marks a strategic expansion beyond electric vehicles, positioning the company in the fast-emerging clean and decentralised energy segment.
Built on the indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell platform ‘शक्ति’ is powered by Ola’s homegrown 4680 Bharat Cell technology and is designed, engineered, and manufactured entirely in India. The product reflects the company’s long-term investments in R&D, advanced manufacturing, and supply-chain localisation, reinforcing its push for energy self-reliance.
Certified for safety and reliability by BIS The 6kW/9.1kWh variant of Ola ‘शक्ति’ has secured Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification under IS 16242 (Part 1): 2025 / IEC 62040-1: 2017. The system cleared rigorous electrical, mechanical, and environmental safety tests, including protection against short circuits, overloads, fire and thermal risks, electric shock, and harsh operating conditions.
Designed as a smart, zero-maintenance alternative Unlike traditional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, ‘शक्ति’ offers instant zero-millisecond changeover, operates across a wide voltage range, and features IP67-rated, spill-proof batteries suited for Indian weather conditions. With no running or maintenance costs, it delivers automotive-grade safety and high efficiency for homes, farms, and small businesses.
Multiple configurations with fast charging and reservations open Ola ‘शक्ति’ is available in four configurations, ranging from 1kW/1.5kWh to 6kW/9.1kWh, capable of powering appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cooktops, and farm equipment. Charging can take as little as two hours, with backup support of up to 1.5 hours at full load. The product is open for reservations on Ola Electric’s website with a refundable booking amount of ₹999.
