The new Gangaikondan facility will create over 1,500 jobs and forms the foundation of Vikram Solar’s integrated manufacturing roadmap, including solar cells, wafers and ingots to strengthen India’s clean energy supply chain.
Homegrown company, Vikram Solar has commissioned its new solar module manufacturing facility at Gangaikondan in Tamil Nadu, with the successful production of the plant’s first solar module. The expansion strengthens the company’s manufacturing footprint and supports India’s push to boost domestic solar production.
Spread across 6 lakh sq. ft., the highly automated greenfield facility is expected to create more than 1,500 skilled jobs. The smart factory features real-time production monitoring, automated quality inspection, full module traceability, and digital manufacturing systems designed to improve efficiency, precision, and long-term product reliability.
The plant has begun manufacturing Vikram Solar’s Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R modules, offering a power output of 615–640 Wp and module efficiencies of up to 23.69%.
The Gangaikondan facility is also central to the company’s long-term plan to establish an integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem in India. Vikram Solar aims to set up 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY27, expand it by 3 GW by FY28, and add 12 GW of wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity by FY29-30, strengthening India’s clean energy supply chain and domestic value addition.
