Wipro Limited, a technology services and consulting company, has secured an impressive position in The Financial Times’ prestigious “Climate Leaders Asia-Pacific 2023” list. The company claimed the second spot overall and achieved the top rank in the ‘Business & Professional Services’ sector.
Wipro’s remarkable recognition reflects its unwavering dedication to reducing carbon impacts and its consistent efforts to enhance transparency in reporting. P.S. Narayan, the Global Head of Sustainability and Social Initiatives at Wipro Limited, expressed delight at being acknowledged by The Financial Times and Statista, emphasizing the company’s rigorous planning, investment, execution, and reporting behind its Net Zero goals. Narayan also stressed the significance of transparent disclosures in fostering collaboration and collective action, crucial elements in addressing climate change. He further affirmed Wipro’s commitment to fortify its momentum in climate change initiatives and environmental stewardship.
As part of its sustainability commitments, Wipro has set a target to achieve Net-Zero GHG emissions by 2040. The company actively participates in leading industry networks such as Transform to Net Zero, WEF, the Carbon Call, and Open Footprint, demonstrating its dedication to collaborating on climate-related endeavors.
Wipro’s ecological sustainability programs encompass various focal areas, including Energy, Water, Waste Management, Campus Biodiversity, and Urban Resilience. These areas were identified through continuous assessments of environmental impacts stemming from the company’s business and supply chain operations.
The Financial Times Asia-Pacific Climate Leaders survey, conducted in partnership with data provider Statista, unveiled that Wipro achieved an impressive 67.6 percent reduction in core emissions between 2016 and 2021. This remarkable reduction secured Wipro the second-highest overall score in the ranking.

The survey evaluated companies across the Asia-Pacific region based on their achievements in reducing core emissions intensity between 2016 and 2021, as well as their commitment to further climate-related initiatives. Notable factors considered included collaboration with organizations like CDP (formerly Climate Disclosure Project) and SBTi2 (Science Based Targets initiative), which assess emissions reduction plans, as well as transparency regarding Scope 3 emissions.
To be eligible for consideration, companies needed to be headquartered in one of the 14 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region and have a minimum revenue of $50 million in 2021. Wipro’s noteworthy performance underscores its position as a frontrunner in the region’s climate leadership efforts, exemplifying its commitment to sustainable practices and environmental responsibility.
