NLCIL Secures Entire Capacity for Rajasthan’s Mega Solar Park, Promoting Sustainability
In a significant development, NLC India Limited (NLCIL), a Navratna Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, has emerged victorious in winning an 810 MW Solar PV project capacity from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Nigam Limited (RRVUNL).
NLCIL’s success in securing the entire 810 MW capacity tendered by RRVUNL in December 2022 is a major milestone. This project is set to be located at RRVUNL’s 2000 MW Ultra Mega Solar Park in Pugal Tehsil, Bikaner District, Rajasthan. The Letter of Intent for this endeavor has been officially issued by RRVUNL, signifying a step forward in NLCIL’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions.
This project benefits from both the land for the project and the power evacuation system connected to the State Transmission Utility (STU), which will be provided by RVUNL. This strategic collaboration is expected to expedite the project’s completion timeline. Notably, this initiative marks the largest renewable project undertaken by NLCIL to date.
Once operational, this solar project will boost the power generation capacity in Rajasthan to 1.36 GW, including a substantial 1.1 GW of green power. This move is expected to bring economies of scale and optimized fixed costs, further reinforcing NLCIL’s dedication to green energy.
Given the favorable solar radiation conditions in Rajasthan, the project is poised to achieve a high Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF), resulting in the generation of over 50 billion units of green power. Additionally, it is estimated to offset more than 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during its operational lifespan.
NLCIL is actively engaged in various other solar projects across the country, including a 50 MW Solar project on mined-out land, a 200 MW Solar project under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme on a pan-India basis, a 300 MW Solar project under the CPSU Scheme at Barsingsar in Bikaner District, and a 600 MW Solar project at Khavda in Bhuj District, Gujarat.
Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLCIL, expressed pride in the company’s achievements, highlighting that NLCIL was the first CPSU to install 1 GW of renewable energy capacity. He further stated that NLCIL is actively working towards developing 2 GW of renewable energy capacity across India, with a target to reach more than 6 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, aligning with the Government of India’s commitment to augment renewable energy capacity addition
