Nxtra by Airtel and AMPIN Energy Transition Expand Green Energy Partnership Beyond 200 MW

The latest ISTS-connected solar-wind hybrid deal adds 125.65 MW of capacity, marking a major milestone in Nxtra’s journey toward net zero and sustainable data centre operations.

Nxtra by Airtel has significantly expanded its renewable energy partnership with AMPIN Energy Transition through a new power-wheeling agreement, adding 125.65 MW of solar-wind hybrid capacity via Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) connected projects.

This development brings the total renewable energy capacity under their collaboration to over 200 MW, bolstering Nxtra’s commitment to sustainable digital infrastructure.

The additional green energy capacity will be delivered in two phases from captive solar-wind hybrid plants located in Rajasthan and Karnataka. Previously, AMPIN was supplying renewable energy to Nxtra through intra-state open access facilities in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha.

With this new agreement, AMPIN will expand its reach to 11 more Indian states and introduce new technologies, including large-scale ISTS integration—enabling the supply of clean energy from a single Independent Power Producer (IPP).

Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel, stated, “Sustainability is not just a commitment—it is our responsibility and our opportunity to lead. With over 200 MW of renewable energy powering our data centres, we are setting new benchmarks in digital infrastructure. This partnership underlines our leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy to enhance operational reliability and deliver measurable climate impact.”

Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD & CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition, added, “This partnership showcases how a seamless blend of inter-state and intra-state renewable energy can enable nearly 100% clean energy transition. Nxtra shares our vision of sustainability, and we are proud to help green India’s data centre ecosystem.”

AMPIN’s integrated renewable energy approach exemplifies its long-term, technology-agnostic commitment to clients across the country. Together, Nxtra and AMPIN aim to create a scalable model for industry-wide decarbonisation.

As part of its broader sustainability strategy aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Nxtra continues to reduce scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions across its operations. The company joined the global RE100 initiative in June 2024, pledging to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources—becoming India’s first data centre company and the 14th Indian organisation to join the global movement.
